Universal Pictures apparently wants to follow the enormous success of their ABBA musical Mamma Mia! by reviving Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s early hit musical Jesus Christ Superstar with (500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb at the helm, this according to the Risky Biz Blog.
The original musical, which typified the music and lifestyles of the early ’70s, first hit the big screen in 1973 in a well-known adaptation by director Norman Jewison, which Universal and producer Marc Platt are now in active development to remake and presumably update for modern audiences. (Besides his successful debut, Webb spent many years directing music videos for the likes of Green Day and others.)
