The Weinstein Co. didn’t exactly fair too well at Silver Linings Playbook — but that doesn’t mean they’re taking it sitting down. Nope, they are already packing the stables for the 2014 Oscars and they’ve added one more.
Nicole Kidman stars as Grace Kelly in Grace of Monaco for La vie en rose director Olivier Dahan and along with the first official picture of Kidman as teased above and seen below in full, Deadline reports the Weinsteins have picked the film up for distribution, paying a $5 million minimum guarantee and a P&A commitment around $10 million for a minimum 800 screen run. Now that’s some confidence.
The film centers on Kelly (Kidman), former Oscar winner and mother of two, who had already spent six years as the monarch of a European nation when the retired starlet was called upon to save Monaco from an escalating situation regarding its standing as a tax haven, with French leader Charles de Gaulle giving her husband, Monaco’s Prince Rainier III (Tim Roth), six months to reform its tax laws. Frank Langella, Parker Posey and Derek Jacobi co-star.
Add Grace to titles such as Justin Chadwick‘s Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, Lee Daniels‘ The Butler, John Wells‘ August: Osage County and James Gray‘s Nightingale and you already have one hell of a 2013 slate of awards contenders and I’m sure a few more to come from film festivals in the near future.
Now here are those two full-sized pictures of Kidman as Kelly.
