1.) Wanted screenwriters Derek Haas and Michael Brandt are preparing to deliver a second draft of their screenplay for Wanted 2 after being replaced and then being asked to return last year. Haas spoke about the return telling Hollywood.com, “After four years, from a creative standpoint, it’s almost better, because we can pick up the story four years later… It’s ‘Where is Wesley [James McAvoy‘s character] four years after the events of the first movie?'”
As for the long-rumored idea of Angelina Jolie returning, which seems to be a creative difference that found Haas and Brandt out of writing the sequel originally, Haas said, “Angelina Jolie gets shot in the head and everyone’s like, ‘Oh, are you going to bring back Fox?’ I said, ‘Did you see the bullet go into her head?’ And they say, ‘Oh, she can take one of those milk baths!’ We never wanted to do that movie.”
As for what will take place, Haas did give a few details saying, “The only thing I can tell you is that Wesley is now, four years later, recruiting a young woman who is in his situation in the first movie. She’s got a sh**ty life. He’s sort of in the Fox role. This new girl is brought into the world.” So, basically, the same movie all over again… got it. [Hollywood]
2.) Speaking of Angelina Jolie, her daughter Vivienne will appear in a small role in Jolie’s upcoming Disney feature Maleficent and it’s now being reported two of her other children with Brad Pitt — Pax and Zahara — will also be seen in the feature in as-yet unknown roles. Vivienne will be playing the younger version of Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning), the young beauty sent into a lengthy slumber in the classic “Sleeping Beauty” tale. [Detroit Free Press]
3.) Yesterday a rumor began swirling that Mark Wahlberg and Michael Bay might reconnect following their work together on Pain and Gain with Wahlberg negotiating a role in Transformers 4. Well, the rumor lasted less than 24 hours as Bay took to his personal website posting, “The Mark Wahlberg [Transformers 4] rumor is just a rumor. Mark and I are talking about another film project.” [Michael Bay]
4.) Previously James Cameron said the following:
“I’m in the Avatar business. Period. That’s it. I’m making Avatar 2, Avatar 3, maybe Avatar 4, and I’m not going to produce other people’s movies for them. I’m not interested in taking scripts. And that all sounds I suppose a little bit restricted, but the point is I think within the Avatar landscape I can say everything I need to say that I think needs to be said, in terms of the state of the world and what I think we need to be doing about it… and doing it in an entertaining way.”
While that remains true it seems he has found something that caught his attention in The Informationist, an adaptation of the Taylor Stevens novel centering on a character named Vanessa “Michael” Munroe, whose said to be a cross between Sherlock Holmes and Lisbeth Salander from “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” trilogy.
The story centers on Vanessa, who spent her teenage years as a protege of gunners and mercenaries in her native South America. She reinvents herself as an information dealer for wealthy clients, but when a billionaire hires her to find his daughter who went missing in Africa, Munroe finds herself back in the Dark Continent.
Cameron will produce the film and is expected to direct once he completes the second and third installments in the Avatar franchise… So we’ll probably see this in 2020… Excited? [THR]
5.) Finally, Entertainment Tonight visited the set of Iron Man 3 and has posted a video online featuring some behind-the-scenes looks and interviews with stars Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow.
