If ever a part was perfect for an actor it is Dickie Roberts and David Spade.
David Spade’s devilish attitude and ability to act like a kid trapped in the body of a grown-up allows this part to come natural. His edgy comedy and quick wit add a lot to his character and the ability to pull off his role as a child actor with a career that has floundered since his early role in a 70s sitcom where he started the catch phrase, “Nucking Futs.”
Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star follows the life of little Dickie Roberts as he tries to restart his career and regain his former stardom. The only way for him to do this is to land the starring role in a new Rob Reiner film, but there is a catch… he has to learn what it is to be a real person.
Warped by his life as a child star Dickie doesn’t have the capabilities of being “normal.”
To achieve his goal he hires a family to help him out. Dickie joins the Finney family and finds more than just his lost stardom in his adventures with his new family.
Laced with former child stars such as Alyssa Milano, Emmanuel Lewis, Danny Bonaduce, Barry Williams, Leif Garrett, Corey Feldmen, and Dustin Diamond this flick gently pokes fun at the rise and fall of stardom.
Dickie Roberts supplies a couple of laughs and any David Spade fan will be satisfied by his comedy as he chops down school bullies, runs into street signs, and helps the Finney children through a variety of life’s little jams.
This movie may not be a summer blockbuster, but it sure makes for a good time any afternoon.
