Adapted from Don Winslow’s novel, Oliver Stone directs Savages for later this year and it was one of my Top 40 Most Anticipated Movies of 2012 and today we have our first look at the film courtesy of Universal International Pictures Argentina and their Twitter account
The film centers on two pals (Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch) from Laguna Beach who share the same girlfriend (Blake Lively) and a thriving business growing and distributing the best-quality pot on the planet. When they resist being muscled by a Mexican drug cartel, the girl is kidnapped and the ransom is every cent they’ve made for the last five years. They agree to pay, but hatch an alternate plan to get her back, get revenge, and then get lost.
The rest of the cast includes Salma Hayek as the leader of the cartel with Benicio del Toro as her lead henchman who you see pictured above blowing smoke in Lively’s face.
The film also features recent Best Actor nominee Demian Bichir (A Better Life) along with John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Emile Hirsch and Joel David Moore.
Universal has set a September 28 release date for the pic and it’s one I’m beginning to anticipate more than I originally was.
