I’ve just received 19 new pictures and two new clips from The Rum Diary, based on Hunter S. Thompson‘s first novel and starring Johnny Depp as Paul Kemp, a roaming journalist who travels to Puerto Rico to work for the San Juan Star, and soon becomes obsessed with Chenault (Amber Heard), a wildly attractive fiancee of shady local businessman Hal Sanderson (Aaron Eckhart).
I didn’t watch any of the clips just as I haven’t watched any of the trailers or TV spots I’ve uploaded as I am seeing the film in just a couple of weeks, but I am a bit concerned considering the press screenings here in Seattle were originally set for one week in advance (always nice for reviewing press to see a film earlier than opening week) and have now been moved to just a couple of days before it hits theaters on October 28. Bad sign?
Nevertheless, I’m still interested. We’re talking about Depp in a film that isn’t directed by Tim Burton and doesn’t require him to slather on mascara. While I enjoy Depp’s Hollywood features, I also like it when he chases unique features and I’m hoping for the best here.
