Marvel and Disney have already decided Thor 2 will hit theaters on July 26, 2013, the same summer the studio will release Iron Man 3 (5/3/13) as the Avengers films continue to steamroll along. Chris Hemsworth is also set to return as the title character, but Thor helmer Kenneth Branagh will not be returning as director, though he will likely be involved in some producing capacity. So I guess we’ll be seeing Thor 2 director shortlists very soon. [Deadline]
Despite the fact filming is already underway, it is now being reported that Matthew Fox (“Lost”) and Ed Harris will not be starring in the zombie apocalypse feature World War Z. Fox is said to have departed due to a conflict with shooting I, Alex Cross while no reason is given for Harris’ departure. Brad Pitt headlines the film which is being directed by Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace) for a 2013 release. [Vulture]
Drew Barrymore is set to direct and produce Heist Society, a young adult thriller being made by Warner Bros. based on the novel by Ally Carter with Shauna Cross (who penned Barrymore’s Whip It) set to adapt. The book follows a young woman named Katarina Bishop who hails from an extended family of cat burglars and master thieves. The girl leaves her illicit life behind, but when her father is the prime suspect in the case of a mobster’s missing art collection, she assembles a crew to track down the art and steal it back. Brooklyn Decker (Just Go With It, Battleship) has secured a role in the upcoming ensemble feature What to Expect When You’re Expecting, based on the global bestseller by Heidi Murkoff and Sharon Mazel with Kirk Jones (Everybody’s Fine) directing.
Decker joins Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Isla Fisher and Ed Helms in the film which follows six couples of varying ages and backgrounds in the run-up to delivery of their babies, in a manner very similar to New Line Cinema’s ensemble features He’s Just Not That Into You and Valentine’s Day. Vince Vaughn is in negotiations to join Ben Stiller in Neighborhood Watch, a sci-fi comedy about a suburban “neighborhood watch” group that serves as a front for dads to get some male-bonding time away from their families. The group finds itself in over its head when it uncovers a plot to destroy the world. Hot Rod helmer Akiva Schaffer is set to direct for Fox from a script recently drafted by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. [The Hollywood Reporter]
