Justin Marks has come on board to rewrite Disney’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo, reports Variety.
The remake will serve as an origin story of Nemo as he creates his warship, the Nautilus. The characters come from the Jules Verne novel and the 1954 action pic, that was the first live action film made by Walt Disney. The studio is fast-tracking the project that McG will direct.
Project is the latest pop culture notch in Marks’ belt after penning scripts for Masters of the Universe, Voltron: Defender of the Universe, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li and a Green Arrow actioner. The first draft was penned by Bill Marsilli.
Disney hopes to make the film this year and is McG’s follow up to Terminator: Salvation.
