UPDATE: The teaser trailer just went online and you can check it out here.
What is going on with this movie called Twilight? Have you heard about it? Have you read the books by Stephenie Meyer? If you have, have you heard about the movie they are making based on the books and are you able to control your drooling? Honestly, I have never seen so much insanity for a movie, based on a series of books I had not heard of.
Be careful not to say anything bad or the fans of the franchise will haunt you and I can only imagine the pounding the servers for Cinematical took when they debuted the first official cast photo you see pictured above.
I wouldn’t dare say this is going to be the next “Harry Potter” because I would be lashed, even if I was simply saying the Twilight franchise has the chance to become as big as the Harry Potter franchise (which it doesn’t). So what’s it all about?
The story revolves around Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), a 17-year-old who moves to a small town in Washington to live with her father and becomes drawn to Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a pale, mysterious classmate who seems determined to push her away. She learns he is a vampire.
Apparently there are also werewolves and Amazon.com’s review says “the novel burns with the erotic tension of their dangerous and necessarily chaste relationship.”
Oh, the passion.
So what about that headline above? What is a Twilight Mom?
Well, actually I think they are referred to as TwilightMOMS based on the website TwilightMOMS.com created by Lisa Hansen, a 34-year-old Utah mother of two. The requirement to join the site is that you must be one of the following: over 25, a mom, or married. Oh, and preferably a MAJOR fan of the “Twilight” book series and based on the registration at the site’s forums there are currently 5,544 TM’s that fill the bill.
Slash Film made the mistake saying the series was primarily loved by teen girls. Oops. Their servers got slammed to the tune of over 1400 comments to the article and they had to close comments. My feelings go out to them.
Luckily, I have seen the wrath the fans pose on sites that prey on this relatively unknown phenomenon (unknown to me that is). However, we are no longer in the dark. CHUD posted an article for the Cinematical post recently called “The Film We’ve Ignored: Twilight“, they apparently are in the same boat as me.
Well, I will be sure not to ignore it any longer. As a matter of fact, I think I am going to have to find out what all the fuss is about just as I did with The Golden Compass. Yup, that’s right, I am going to read the damn books and get all caught up in the “erotic tension” and “chaste” relationships. I just have to hammer through Stephen King’s “Song of Susannah” (finally finishing up “The Dark Tower” series) and I still have to read “The Amber Spyglass” (book three in “His Dark Materials”) and I want to read “The Road” sometime soon if I can ever find the time.
If you are already a “Twilight” fan and not in touch with the fan sites out there I have listed a few below. And if you are already fully aware of the phenomenon share your thoughts below or just keep on the look out as the film hits on December 12.
