Game of Thrones adds Euron Greyjoy for season 6
EW has confirmed that another key character from George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” will be making his way to HBO’s Game of Thrones with Danish actor Pilou Asbæk as Euron Greyjoy. Asbæk recently appeared in the Scarlett Johansson-starring Lucy and also in the TV series “The Borgias.” He can next be seen as Pontius Pilate in the upcoming Ben-Hur remake.
As for Euron Greyjoy, the character is a member of House Greyjoy and the oldest of Lord Balon Greyjoy’s younger brothers, making him the uncle of both Theon and Yara Greyjoy. In the original text, Euron is the captain of a war ship called Silence, which is crewed entirely by mute sailors who have had their tongues ripped out by the man himself.
Asbæk joins a number of notable new cast members for the sixth season of the series, including Max von Sydow (The Exorcist, Minority Report, the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens) as the Three-Eyed Raven and Ian McShane (“Deadwood,” Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) in an undisclosed role.
The ten episodes currently in production will air on HBO in the spring of 2016. HBO recently confirmed this summer plans for the series to run for at least eight seasons.
