Alleged Spider-Man Costume Photos Surface!

Does a mysterious Twitter account reveal the first Spider-Man costume photos?

UPDATE: James Gunn, the writer and director behind Guardians of the Galaxy and its upcoming sequel, has announced on Twitter that this account is not associated with Joe and Anthony Russo:

Although it’s definitely something to take with a grain of salt, BirthMoviesDeath today linked to a mysterious Twitter feed that they allege may contain the very first Spider-man costume photo from the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. Although unverified, the account claims to represent Joe and Anthony Russo, the sibling pair behind both last year’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier as well as the currently-filming Civil War (not the mention the upcoming double-feature film Avengers: Infinity War). Assuming the account is legitimate (the best clue at the moment is that the feed’s first follower is a Disney Marketing VP), it appears built to tease, offering extreme close-ups of what appear to be props and costumes.

While there’s quite a bit to speculate on throughout the images (all of which you can check out below), the image that is drawing the most attention went up July 10th:

Could that be our first look at Tom Holland’s Spidey’s outfit? As Devin Faraci speculates in his original story, it could mean that we’re getting a Spider-man costume unlike anything we’ve seen on the big screen before, losing the blue and instead offering a black and red costume that harkens back to Steve Ditko’s original Spider-Man designs!.

Set for release in the United States on May 6, 2016, Captain America: Civil War features a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. It is set to feature the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, this time joined in his “solo” film by fellow Avengers Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes/War Machine and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. Sebastian Stan will also be back as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier alongside Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter/Agent 13, Daniel Brühl as Baron Helmut Zemo, Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones, William Hurt as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Martin Freeman in a mystery role.

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
