Oscar winner J.K. Simmons reunites with director Damien Chazelle for La La Land
According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor J.K. Simmons will be re-teaming with the man who directed him to an Oscar win in Whiplash, Damien Chazelle, for the contemporary musical La La Land.
Simmons will play a character called “Boss” opposite previously-announced stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, with Jessica Rothe, Sonoya Mizuno and Callie Hernandez also recently cast as Stone’s roommates.
The story follows Sebastian (Gosling) and Mia (Stone), who are drawn together by their common desire to do what they love. But as success mounts they are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other threaten to rip them apart.
Chazelle wrote the script and will direct the film, with Fred Berger, Gary Gilbert, Jordan Horowitz and Marc Platt producing. Summit will release La La Land on July 15, 2016.
Simmons has several upcoming projects lined up, including The Accountant opposite Ben Affleck as well as a starring role in the Luc Besson-produced action thriller The Lake.
