Doctor Who’s David Tennant Joins Animated Chew Movie

Chew, the upcoming animated feature adaptation of the acclaimed Image Comics series by John Layman and Rob Guillory, has today added David Tennant to its voice cast! The Hollywood Reporter has the news, bringing word that the former “Doctor Who” star will play Mason Savoy, who begins the story as a mentor to the lead character. Tennant will join previously-announced stars Steven Yeun (“The Walking Dead”) and Felicia Day (“The Guild”).

The original comic book series, which launched in 2009, is officially described as follows:

Tony Chu is a detective with a secret. A weird secret. Tony Chu is Cibopathic, which means he gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats. It also means he’s a hell of a detective, as long as he doesn’t mind nibbling on the corpse of a murder victim to figure out whodunit, and why. He’s been brought on by the Special Crimes Division of the FDA, the most powerful law enforcement agency on the planet, to investigate their strangest, sickest, and most bizarre cases.

Tennant is no stranger to comic book worlds. He’ll be starring as Killgrave (the MCU’s take on Marvel’s Purple Man) in the upcoming Netflix series, “Jessica Jones.”

Jeff Krelitz is directing Chew, which may forgo a theatrical release and head direct to home video. Layman himself is providing the screenplay with Krelitz also producing alongside David Boxenbaum through their Heavy Metal brand. Layman and Guillory will also executive produce with Scott Boxenbaum and Dan Tischler.
