With his comedy series “The Last Man on Earth” having recently concluded its first season on FOX, Will Forte (“Saturday Night Live,” Nebraska) has joined the cast of Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele’s New Line comedy feature Keanu. The Hollywood Reporter has the news, bringing word that Forte will join a cast that already includes, in addition to the comedy duo, Method Man (The Cobbler, The Sitter) and Gabrielle Union (Top Five, Think Like a Man Too).
According to the trade, Forte’s character is that of “a low-level pot dealer obsessed with black culture although Peele’s character is the only black person he knows.” The film’s storyline sees Key and Peele as two friends who, in an an attempt to rescue a kidnapped kitten (presumably named after the John Wick star), decide to pose as a pair of gangsters. Unfortunately for them, their charade attracts the attention of a murderous drug lord (Method Man).
Scripted by Key and Peele, Keanu will be directed by Peter Atencio, who has directed episodes of both “Key & Peele” and “The Last Man on Earth.” It is planned to shoot this summer with a release date yet to be determined.
