Last month, it was revealed that Paramount was developing a “writer’s room” for their hit “Transformers” franchise with the goal of creating “multi-part Transformers sequels” and “potential spin-off films.” Today, Hasbro held their first quarter earnings call for 2015 where they spoke about the strategy behind this idea and when we might expect the next “Transformers” movie (via TFW2005).
“Our plan right now with the studio and filmmakers, you may have read something about some writers being hired,” Brian Goldner President and CEO of Hasbro says. “We have in fact brought in [Akiva Goldsman[ to lead a group of writers to really create a strategic plan around Transformers – we think there’s any number of stories to be told. It’s a brand that’s been around for 30 years with amazing canon and mythology. We would expect the sequel to the Transformers movie to happen in 2017.
I Am Legend writer Akiva Goldsman is set to lead the “writer’s room” with Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura making up the other members of the development team. Goldman will reportedly not actually write any of the films but will provide oversight into the development of them as writers are hired. It was also previously reported that Michael Bay hopes to shoot the next film soon after completed work on his Benghazi drama 13 Hours,
When previously asked about coming back for more, Mark Wahlberg, who starred in the most recent entry Transformers: Age of Extinction said: “Yeah, I committed to doing a couple more. I can’t speak for Mr. Bay, but something tells me we’ll be on set soon.”
“Age of Extinction” went on to gross over $1 billion at the global box office with all four films combined grossing over $3.7 billion.
