CS Video: Kevin Costner and the Cast of McFarland, USA

Certainly no stranger to sports films, Kevin Costner headlines this week’s inspirational drama McFarland, USA, the true story of a team of students from a poor Californian town, who, against all odds, pulled together to become cross country champions. Costner plays Jim White, a high school coach ,who, following some personal hardships, moves with his family to McFarland in 1987. At first he can’t stand being an outsider in the predominately Latino town, but as White begins to understand the incredible dedication of his students, he realizes that they may have what it takes to be the very best.

ComingSoon.net sat down with Costner himself and his seven running costars, Carlos Pratts, Hector Duran, Sergio Avelar, Johnny Ortiz, Rafael Martinez, Ramiro Rodriguez and Michael Aguero, to discuss the hard work that went into capturing the true story. Costner also speaks a bit about how directing and coaching go hand in hand while the guys discuss working opposite a modern film legend. Check out the entire video interview in the player below!

McFarland, USA is directed by Niki Caro from a screenplay written by Christopher Cleveland & Bettina Gilois and Grant Thompson from a story by Cleveland & Gilois. If you missed it earlier this week, check out our interview with Caro right here.
