The film follows a young 19th century woman (Wasikowska) on the run from a diabolical preacher (Pearce), with Pattinson playing an outlaw.
Els Vandevorst (Winter in Wartime, Dogville) of N279 Entertainment will produce Brimstone alongside Studio Babelsberg, The Film Farm and Prime Time, with shooting set to commence in May of this year.
Pattinson currently has two films in competition at the Berlin Film Festival (where Brimstone is being sold), including Anton Corbijn’s Life and Werner Herzog’s Queen of the Desert, in which he plays T.E. Lawrence. He will next co-star with Sienna Miller and Charlie Hunnam in James Gray’s The Lost City of Z.
Van Houten will reprise her popular role as sorceress Melisandre on the 5th season of HBO’s hit series “Game of Thrones,” while also headlining the Blumhouse production Incarnate opposite Aaron Eckhart in addition to playing German filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl in the Jesse Owens biopic Race.
