David Oyelowo May Join Lupita Nyong’o for Americanah

'Selma' New York premiereEarlier this year, actress Lupita Wyong’o made waves by winning an Oscar for her supporting role in Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave, while actor David Oyelowo is currently getting rave notices (and awards nominations) for his portrayal of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Ava Duvernay’s Selma

Word comes from Variety that the two actors may be teaming together for the indie drama Americanah, based on the 2013 novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie about a pair of young Nigerian immigrants trying to maintain their relationship despite their many struggles.

The project is produced by Brad Pitt through his Plan B production company, which won the Oscar for Best Picture for 12 Years a Slave and also produced Selma, with Nyong’o and Andrea Calderwood also producing.

They’re now looking for a writer and director to develop the adaptation with no start of production in sight.
