New Line Cinema has picked up U.S. remake rights to The Orphanage, the directorial debut of Guillermo del Toro Protégé Juan Antonio Bayona, says The Hollywood Reporter.
Produced by del Toro and Spain’s Telecinco Cinema and Rodar y Rodar, with the participation of Warner Bros. Productions Spain,the film is written by Sergio Sanchez and tells the tale of a woman’s return to the orphanage where she grew up with the intention of opening a home for handicapped children.
Del Toro will act as producer on the U.S. version as well.
Picturehouse will release the original in the U.S. on Dec. 28.
