Gerard Butler (300) will star opposite Jodie Foster and Abigail Breslin in Fox Walden adventure Nim’s Island, based on Wendy Orr’s children’s novel of the same name.
Husband-wife directing team Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin are set to begin filming in late July in Australia from their adapted screenplay. The studio is planning an April 25, 2008 release.
The storyline revolves around a girl who lives on a tropical isle with her father, a scientist whose boat runs into trouble one day, leaving the girl to fend for herself on the island. She begins emailing the author of the book she is reading, and with the author’s help, is able to manage. The trio ultimately unites to save the island from careless tour companies.
Butler will next be seen starring opposite Hilary Swank in dramedy P.S. I Love You on December 21.
After Nim’s Island, Butler is set to star in Lakeshore Entertainment’s futuristic thriller Game, which begins shooting in January.
