Pedro Pascal’s rise to the top in Hollywood has caught the attention of Robert Downey Jr., who recently reflected on his co-star’s journey. As both actors prepare to face off in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Downey took a moment to reflect on Pascal’s journey in Hollywood.
What did Robert Downey Jr. say about Pedro Pascal?
Robert Downey Jr. had nothing but admiration for Pedro Pascal while reflecting on their time working together in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming phases.
Both stars are set to appear in major MCU projects: Pascal will debut as Reed Richards, also known as Mr. Fantastic, in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Meanwhile, Downey takes on the role of Victor Von Doom, also known as Doctor Doom, in Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently filming at Pinewood Studios in the U.K. ahead of its December 2026 release.
In a recent Vanity Fair cover story, Downey spoke about Pascal’s rise to fame in Hollywood. The actor said, “Pascal’s slow trajectory to becoming a household name who is on a wildly hot streak kind of reaffirms my faith in our industry.”
The two have grown close while working together, with Downey reportedly hosting informal “homework days” at his home for the cast. However, Pascal has remained tight-lipped about what actually happens during those sessions. When asked about the details, Pascal simply replied, “Very good question.”
Despite the excitement surrounding his Marvel debut, Pascal admitted he had initial doubts about joining the franchise. With online backlash criticizing his age and appearance for the role of Reed Richards, he felt the pressure. He said, “I’m more aware of disgruntlement around my casting than anything I’ve ever done. ‘He’s too old. He’s not right. He needs to shave.’”
But Downey’s warm welcome on the Avengers: Doomsday set quickly put Pascal at ease. Talking about Downey, Pascal said, “He’s just so immediately generous and inviting that you feel like you can be afraid, you can be hungry, you can be ambivalent.” (via Indie Wire)
