Why was Wiz Khalifa arrested in Romania?
Wiz Khalifa was arrested in Romania for illegal drug possession and use.
The “See You Again” rapper recently performed onstage at the Beach. Please! Festival in Romania. Here, he was seen smoking cannabis on stage. Cannabis is illegal in Romania, where it is considered a “risk drug.”
Accordingly, Khalifa was taken away from the venue by the authorities.
The DIICOT, Romanian anti-crime prosecutors, later released an official press statement. The statement, where Wiz Khalifa was unnamed when translated, read:
“On 14.07.2024, the prosecutors of the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism – Constanța Territorial Service ordered the initiation of criminal proceedings against a defendant (US citizen) investigated for the crime of illegal drug possession risk. It was noted that he, during a recital held at a music festival held in the resort of Costinești, Constanța county, possessed over 18 grams of cannabis (risk drug) and consumed (on stage) another amount of cannabis under the shape of a craft cigarette.”
The statement further revealed that Khalifa would benefit from the procedural rights and guarantees provided by the Code of Criminal Procedure and the presumption of innocence.
Wiz Khalifa, who was later reportedly released from jail, took to X (formerly Twitter) to address his arrest. The rapper said that he did not mean to be disrespectful to the Romanian authorities. He also mentioned that those who arrested him were respectful toward him. He concluded by saying he would be back for another show next time but without marijuana in his possession.
Wiz Khalifa spoke about his use of cannabis in a February 2024 appearance on SkinBone, he revealed around the 19:47 mark that he smokes up to 30 times a day.
