Fans are curious to know whether House of the Dragon is canceled as season two nears its end next month. This season focuses on Aegon II ruling from the Iron Throne. Meanwhile, Queen Rhaenyra and her council plan their next moves. Both parties seek support from Westeros as the Civil War approaches. The upcoming days will see the series reaching its ultimate conclusion, making fans wonder if another season is in store.
Here’s the answer if you want to know whether House of the Dragon is renewed.
Is House of the Dragon canceled or renewed for Season 3?
HBO Max recently announced ahead of Season 2’s release that House of the Dragon will have a Season 3.
According to Deadline, last month, Francesca Orsi, EVP and Head of Drama and HBO Programming, praised the cast and crew for their efforts in creating an impressive Season 2. She expressed enthusiasm for continuing the House Targaryen saga in Season 3.
“We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three,” Orsi said.
How many more seasons of House of the Dragon will there be?
House of the Dragon will likely have four seasons, according to co-creator and executive producer George R.R. Martin’s blog post.
In the blog, Martin wrote about spending two days with the writing staff and co-creator Ryan Condal in a locked room. During this time, they discussed potential plans for Seasons 3 and 4. He described their discussions as “fun” and “lively,” and although two days weren’t enough to cover all the stories, they made significant progress.
House of the Dragon Season 2 continues to be based on Martin’s Fire & Blood. According to The Direct, the first season covered less than 100 pages of the book. Considering this, Season 2 covers even less, leaving ample room to explore more key Targaryen stories in future seasons.
