Who is Vermithor and will it return in House of the Dragon Season 2?
Vermithor was the dragon of King Jaehaerys Targaryen. As of now, it is not officially confirmed whether Vermithor will make an appearance in House of the Dragon Season 2. However, the trailer does hint at his arrival. Fans will have to wait and see if this legendary dragon returns to the screen.
Vermithor, known as the Bronze Fury, is a second-generation dragon and one of the oldest dragons alive. He was ridden by King Jaehaerys the Wise and has been resting on Dragonstone since the king’s death.
What happened to Vermithor in the book?
According to Fire and Blood by George R.R. Martin, Vermithor participates in the Dance of the Dragons and later bonds with Hugh, a Targaryen bastard and blacksmith from Dragonstone.
The Civil War began with the death of King Viserys. During this time, Targaryen bastards were called to choose a dragon and join the war. Many tried to bond with Vermithor but were unsuccessful. However, Hugh succeeded in bonding with the dragon, and Vermithor accepted him as his rider. Feeling powerful and greedy, Hugh started calling himself Hugh Hammer or Lord Hammer, and he tried to overthrow the king. In the end, both Hugh and Vermithor were killed in battle.
Created by Ryan Condal and George R. R. Martin, House of the Dragon premiered its second season on June 16, 2024.
