Andrew McCarthy’s documentary BRATS reunites former members of the Brat Pack, a famous posse of actors who ran the 80s. The members included Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, Anthony Hall, and others. These actors gave us a few classics, including The Breakfast Club, St. Elmo’s Fire, Pretty in Pink, and more.
Reportedly, in 1985, David Blum, a New York magazine writer, authored an article about the members, coining the term Brat Pack. A few months later, director John Huges dropped his classic The Breakfast Club. Before that, these actors had appeared in hits such as Taps, The Outsiders, and Rumble Fish. During their respective careers, these young actors took over Hollywood, made multiple iconic hits, and influenced the decades to come. Some built long-lasting careers, leaving an impression that would sustain them long after the 80s.
Now, Andrew McCarthy’s documentary brings back his former Brat Pack members as they sit down to discuss their respective lives. BRATS premiered on Hulu on June 13, 2024, and this article looks at what the former Brat Pack members have been doing now.
Andrew McCarthy
The director of the documentary, McCarthy starred in St. Elmo’s Fire and Pretty in Pink. His other 80s films include Mannequin, Less Than Zero, and Weekend at Bernie’s, reported People Magazine.
McCarthy is actively involved in directing and has directed multiple episodes of Orange Is the New Black, The Blacklist, and also appeared in The Resident’s sixth season in 2022. A year later, the actor starred in an indie film, Grace Point, alongside John Owen Lowe, per E! News.
Judd Nelson
People Magazine stated that Nelson worked alongside Andrew McCarthy in The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo’s Fire. He later starred in From the Hip, and New Jack City. His other TV credits include Suddenly Susan and a recurring role on Empire.
Very recently, he starred in films like 2018’s Billionaire Boys Club, 2023’s Dante’s Hotel, and South of Hope Street in 2024. McCarthy claimed that Judd Nelson, also a Brat Pack member once, did not appear in the documentary.
Molly Ringwald
Ringwald’s popular 80s films include Sixteen Candles and Pretty in Pink, among other hits. Recently, the actress has made several minor screen appearances, including The Secret Life of the American Teenager.
She has played roles in Netflix’s supernatural drama Riverdale and the hit rom-com trilogy, Kissing Booth. Molly Ringwald, now a mother of three, then starred in Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and FX’s Feud: Capote vs. The Swans. However, she did not appear in the Brat Pack documentary alongside other members.
Demi Moore
Moore starred alongside several Brat Pack members in St. Elmo’s Fire. She later appeared in a series of films in the 90s. These movies include Ghost, A Few Good Men, and Indecent Proposal.
Then, she made a Hollywood comeback in Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle and appeared on Empire, Songbird, the Dirty Diana podcast, and Feud: Capote vs. the Swans. Demi Moore, who has been married thrice, including once with Ashton Kutcher, is now a mother of three. Recently, the actress participated in Matthew McCarthy’s BRATS documentary.
Ally Sheedy
Sheedy starred with other Brat Pack members in The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo’s Fire. Following these iconic roles, she appeared in Short Circuit, Only the Lonely, and High Art. Her subsequent television credits include Kyle XY, Psych, Oz, The Dead Zone, and CSI.
Additionally, she appeared in Shutter Island, Welcome to the Rileys, and X-Men: Apocalypse. Ally Sheedy was married to David Lansbury, but they split in 2008. The former couple shares a son together.
Emilio Estevez
Before appearing in The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo’s Fire, Estevez had starred in 1993’s The Outsiders. His successful streak continued with hits including Stakeout, Young Guns, The Mighty Ducks, The Way, which he also wrote and directed, and The Public.
In 2021, he returned to his role in The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers only for the first season. Emilio Estevez, who dated Demi Moore in the 80s, reunited with the Brat Pack for McCarthy’s documentary. Estevez is now a father of two children.
Rob Lowe
Lowe, who is now a married father of two, starred with the Brat Pack members in St. Elmo’s Fire. He later costarred with Demi Moore in 1986’s About Last Night. Lowe, who participated in the BRATS documentary, has led a scandalous Hollywood life mainly because of his sex tape controversy.
Although his image took a hit, Rob Lowe eventually made a comeback and appeared in Wayne’s World, The West Wing, Brothers and Sisters, and Parks and Recreation. His other credits include 9-1-1: Lone Star, Super Troopers 2, Dog Gone, and Netflix’s Unstable. The actor married Sheryl Berkoff in 1991. The two have been together since and now share two kids.
Anthony Hall
Hall was in Saturday Night Live in the 80s when he was a Brat Pack member before appearing in movies such as Weird Science and Edward Scissorhands. He later starred in television shows, The Dead Zone, Awkward, Murder in the First, The Goldbergs, and Bosch: Legacy. His most recent film, Halloween Kills, premiered in 2021.
Then, in 2017, Anthony Hall pleaded no contest to charges of assaulting a neighbor, receiving three years of probation. He tied the knot with Lucia Oskerova, and the couple now share a son, Michael Anthony Hall II.
The Brat Pack documentary BRATS is now streaming on Hulu.
