The ongoing costume C-drama The Double, starring Wu Jinyan and Wang Xingyue in the lead roles, released episode 17 on June 9, 2024. This episode focuses on Fang Fei (Wu Jinyan) and Xiao Heng (Wang Xingyue) gradually getting closer. In episode 16, viewers saw Fang Fei visiting the underground market in disguise.
In the new episode, Mingyu has a breakdown after returning from the market. He terribly misses Zhen and wishes to see her one more time. Fang Fei, on the other hand, is drunk out of her wits. Thus, Xiao Heng holds her close, trying to prevent her from falling down. After Mingyu takes his leave, Fang Fei lets go of her worries and starts to dance in the rain. She openly praises Xiao Heng. He is amused to see her be herself for the first time.
Fang Fei calls Xiao Heng handsome and tries to kiss him. Even after he holds himself back and pushes her away multiple times, she continues to pull him closer. Xiao Heng praises Fang Fei, saying that even after drinking so much, she refrained from telling the truth. He covers her with his cloak, and she falls asleep on his chest. Xiao Heng gently carries her to the Ye residence, where she has been staying.
Then, the episode shows Xiao Heng and his associate guarding Wu Lan’s residence. To their surprise, Chu Lan visits her late at night. Xiao Heng watches in horror as Wu Lan chooses to take Chu Lan’s side. Unfortunately, he gets caught, and a terrible fight breaks out between them. Chu Lan mercilessly kills Wu Lan, as she is of no use to him anymore.
Meanwhile, Xiao Heng takes down all the assassins single-handedly. Furthermore, Lai Biao and his men come to his rescue and catch all the perpetrators. Despite their best efforts, Chu Lan manages to get away.
The Double episode 17: Did Wu Jinyan try to get close to Wang Xingyue
Fang Fei is able to retrieve the name of the buyer from Lai Biao. It turns out that Dafeng Pharmacy is the buyer of Tuoluo flowers. When Governor Tong comes to know about Fang Fei’s endeavor, he sends his men to take care of it.
The next morning, Mingyu accompanies Fang Fei to the pharmacy. But the business seems to have been shut down overnight. Mingyu sends in his associate Shun to check.
Meanwhile, the governor arrives there with his men and finds eight people brutally murdered inside the building. But Shun also gets caught and taken in for questioning. On the other hand, Fang Fei and Mingyu have to stay silent to continue their investigation.
Soon after, Fang Fei meets the official of weaving and dyeing to ask for his help, but he refuses. Even Mrs. Ye attempts to negotiate with the governor but fails. When all hope seems lost, Fang Fei comes up with a brilliant idea.
She meets Xiao Heng and explains her plan in detail. With Mingyu’s help, she would arrange an auction for the governor. There, they would make it appear that the governor has withheld the tributes the Ye family set aside for the emperor and tips off the observer of the imperial court. Then, the observer and his men will catch Governor Tong with the stolen goods.
Xiao Heng warns Fang Fei that her plan might backfire. He worries that when the truth comes out, Fang Fei will be the one to get all the blame.
But fortunately, her plan works. Mr. Ye gets released and reunites with his family. Fang Fei is also able to clear up all misunderstandings between Mingyu and the rest of the Ye family. The whole family expresses their gratitude to her and accepts her as one of them.
