The Boys: Why Didn’t Homelander Save the Plane With Queen Maeve?

One of the most memorable scenes in The Boys Season 1 is when Homelander and Queen Maeve board Transoceanic Flight 37 after it has been hijacked by terrorists. The two end up leaving the passengers to die, but did that have to be the outcome? We’ll examine whether Homelander could have saved the plane in The Boys and why he chose not to do so.

Given that Homelander is arguably the most powerful supe, many fans were confused about why he didn’t save the plane in The Boys Season 1, Episode 4, “The Female of the Species.” After he negligently destroys the plane’s controls, he immediately gives up his rescue attempt, and he and Queen Maeve leave the passengers to die. But there was surely something he could do, right?

The limits of Homelander’s strength aren’t known, but we can assume that he could lift the weight of the plane. The problem is that the outer skin of a passenger aircraft is relatively thin. So, if he just tried to push against it or grab onto it, he’d likely punch through or rip parts off.

However, Homelander could have likely disabled the plane’s engines and used a moderate amount of force to keep it stable until it could glide to a landing in the ocean. Alternatively, he could have taken Maeve’s suggestion and flown a few passengers at a time out until they had either all been rescued or the plane crashed.

When it comes down to it, though, Homelander doesn’t care. He didn’t think of a solution because the easiest thing to do was to abandon the passengers to their deaths. He didn’t even consider the plan to fly a few out at a time because he’s lazy, and that would be too much work.

The whole reason Homelander and Maeve attempted to save the plane in The Boys was for political ammo anyway. Homelander figured out a way to promote his agenda without saving the plane, so he just didn’t care.

In the end, Homelander could have rescued at least some of the passengers, but it was too much effort for him to be bothered to make.
