A Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow release date is set as the project is finally moving forward at DC Studios. Not only does it have Milly Alcock as its confirmed lead, but a director and writer have also been assigned. Following James Gunn’s Superman, it will be the second theatrically released movie set in the DCU and is wasting no time to arrive.
Milly Alcock’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow lands a June 2026 release
House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock was cast as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, in late January earlier this year. She is expected to have an appearance in Gunn’s upcoming Superman outing, which could set up her solo project.
On Tuesday, a Warner Bros. press release revealed that Supergirl will storm into theaters on June 26, 2026, less than a year after Superman. James Gunn and Peter Safran have also found a writer-director duo that they are happy with.
Craig Gillespie confirmed to direct DCU’s new Supergirl movie
Dumb Money director Craig Gillespie was initially reported to be in talks to helm Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. He has officially signed on to direct, teaming up with Ana Nogueira, who is penning the screenplay for the film. Her script will be inspired by Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s Supergirl comic of the same name.
Besides Alcock, no other actor or character is confirmed to appear in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow yet. Whether David Corenswet’s Man of Steel will have a cameo in the film remains to be seen.
While the DCU is seemingly picking up pace, it is yet to find release windows for three other previously announced movies from Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. The films that will follow Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’s 2026 release date include The Brave and The Bold, The Authority, and Swamp Thing.
