Interview with the Vampire Season 2 Cast: Why Was Claudia Recast?

Bailey Bass is a rising talent who starred as the main character, Claudia, in the first season of Interview with the Vampire. However, it was confirmed that Bass wouldn’t reprise her role in Season 2 and Delainey Hayles would replace her. This has left some fans wondering why AMC announced Bass’ exit and recast the role. Here’s everything you need to know.

Why has Delainey Hayles replaced Bailey Bass’ Claudia in Interview with the Vampire Season 2?

Since Season 1 of Interview with the Vampire, Claudia has been a main character as she was converted into a vampire after being rescued by Louis. However, the most recent season replaced Bailey Bass in the role with Delainey Hayles. As per Variety, Bass mentioned the reason behind her abrupt exit in a statement, saying that she had to let go of the show due to “a variety of unforeseen circumstances.”

Additionally, she explained how it was her dream role and how she had an “incredible” journey. She wished Hayles good luck in carrying forward her beloved role in Interview with the Vampire Season 2 and appreciated the opportunity given to her by the producers, cast, and crew.

As per a report from Deadline, AMC echoed this reason in their own statement. The network praised Bass’ performance on the show while wishing her the best in her future endeavors.

In an interview with TVLine, Hayles stated that she is excited to play the part. However, she also mentioned that she is conscious of the fact that “recasts are very hard.”

As per Entertainment Weekly, Hayles was invited to audition the day after sending in her tape. She was then offered the part the following day. The day after that, she was flying to Prague to develop Claudia’s new look.

Though no specific reason was given for Bass’ departure from the show, her supporting role in the blockbuster movie Avatar: The Way of Water, and her expected involvement in its planned sequels, may have been a contributing factor. Given the seemingly amicable nature of the split on both sides, scheduling conflicts appear to be the most likely reason.
