During Netflix’s recent Roast of Tom Brady, Kim Kardashian took to the dais to a chorus of boos, which fans noticed were edited out for the version that remains on Netflix. According to Netflix, however, Kardashian wasn’t consulted and didn’t ask for any special treatment.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Robbie Praw — the vice president of stand-up and comedy formats at Netflix — was asked about the decision to edit out Kardashian being booed.
Praw said that Netflix often edits stand-up content that’s aired live to make things more watchable, and that “no talent were consulted” when it comes to this.
“Post edits are standard practice for comedy specials and happen in live broadcasts, whether that’s subtitles, adding things or removing things that we can’t do when it’s streaming live,” said Praw. “It’s part of, quite frankly, the fun of watching it live to not miss those things. But I will just say this, in addition to that, that no talent were consulted as part of that.”
When asked specifically if Kardashian asked for booing to be removed, Praw responded with “no.”
Kim Kardashian’s relationship with Netflix continues to grow
Aside from appearing on the recently aired roast, Kardashian will also work with Netflix on a new coming-of-age series called Calabasas. The series comes from Kardashian and Emma Roberts, who are both producers on the series.
“Calabasas follows Via, a 16-year-old sheltered Midwestern Catholic school girl whose world is turned upside down when her family moves and she’s forced to transfer to the fast world of Calabasas High where nothing is as it appears and where everyone is trying to be someone else. It’s a place where dreams come true . . . but not without complications and sometimes unforeseen consequences,” reads the synopsis.
