Raw and Titane filmmaker Julia Ducournau’s next film is titled Alpha. She’ll direct and write the project.
Alpha an Unknown
Details on the film are scarce, but we do know that it will star Golshifteh Farahani (Paterson) and Tahar Rahim (A Prophet). In a statement from FilmNation Entertainment and Charades, we learned that this will be Ducournau’s ”Most personal, profound work yet”
Considering how personal Ducournau’s previous films felt, that’s an interesting statement. Her debut feature, Raw, was released in 2017 and garnered critical acclaim for its understated body horror as a young vegetarian veterinary student discovers a darker side to herself after consuming raw meat.
Ducournau made a bigger splash with more body horror in 2021’s superb and bizarre Titane, which kicked up a storm at Cannes thanks to its Cronenberg-esque stylings, causing intense reactions in audiences, and it ended up winning the Palme d’Or.
Those two films make Ducournau one of the standout names in modern horror, and while we don’t yet know what genre approach Alpha will take, her distinct style will have fans of these films eager to see what the director does next.
