The sequel to the Samara Weaving-led comedy horror, Ready or Not, has long been in development since 2019. Now, should the second film get made, director Tyler Gillett promised that it would be “an absolute f—ing banger.”
With the first film having generated respectable box office earnings — complete with positive reviews from both critics and audiences — it’s not unlikely for it to receive a second one. In an interview with EW, Gillett confirmed that the script had already been written.
“It’s getting figured out. That’s what we’ll say: Ready or Not 2 is getting figured out. What we can say is that there is a script that is an absolute f—ing banger of a sequel. And however it gets made, and in whatever capacity we are helping get it made, we are so excited that it’s happening. That movie is truly the love of our creative lives in a lot of ways,” said Gillet, who directed the movie alongside Matt Bettinelli-Olpi.
The black comedy, which hit theaters back in 2019, followed the events after Grace’s wedding, in which the wealthy family she just got married into had some sort of weird and dark ritual in mind to commemorate the night, which led Grace into a blood-filled game of hide-and-seek — a slightly different honeymoon than she anticipated.
Apart from Weaving, Ready or Not also features an ensemble cast for the sadistic Le Domas family, including Mark O’Brien as Grace’s husband Alex, Adam Brody as Daniel, Henry Czerny as Tony, Melanie Scrofano as Emilie, Elyse Levesque as Charity, and Nicky Guadagni as Helene.
The sequel is moving forward, whether you’re ready or not
It was reported last month that Searchlight Pictures would move the second outing forward, following the success of the first one. However, both Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillet won’t reportedly direct the sequel and will instead be directed by Escape Room filmmaker Adam Robitel.
Weaving’s return has not been confirmed as of yet, but considering her well-received portrayal of Grace, there’s a high chance she’ll reprise the role.
Other details about the sequel have remained a mystery.
