What are the best Philo series to watch in April 2024?
Many of the best Philo series to watch in April 2024 will be a variety of reality TV and investigative shows. It can be difficult to figure out what to choose from the extensive catalogue on the streaming service. So here’s our picks for the best Philo shows available for April.
Ghost Adventures: House Calls
The second season of Ghost Adventures: House Calls, which will premiere on Discovery on April 3, takes investigator Zak Bagans and his intrepid team to numerous haunted houses through the country. Featuring Billy Tolley, Jay Wasley, and Aaron Goodwin, the cast helps families who are afraid that they are being tormented by ghosts and paranormal activity. For this season, the team will need to deal with voodoo curses, human ashes, devil worship, and Satanic rituals.
Accused: Guilty or Innocent?
The new season of Accused: Guilty or Innocent? continues the debate between right and wrong in the court of law. Each episode, the show allows viewers to see a trial from the perspective of the accused and then consider whether or not the ultimate verdict matches the evidence and testimony presented by the defense. Sometimes guilt is difficult to discern, with a thin line between murder and self-defense. This true crime series goes through the difficult process of the US criminal justice system and how it can take a toll on the accused and their family. Do you agree with the jury?
Mary & George
This British historical drama series on Starz features Mary Villiers (Julianne Moore), who aims to have her son, George (Tony Curran), seduce King James I (Tony Curran) for political gain. As opposed to other period pieces, the show tries to be more honest when it comes to the sex lives of figures in the past, injecting some dark humor and more than a few salacious moments. Expect plenty of political intrigue, betrayal, breakups, and unexpected alliances as both Mary and George attempt to climb the social ladder. The series is loosely based on the 2017 book The King’s Assassin and has received generally favorable reviews from critics so far. If you enjoy other dramas like Bridgerton or the film The Favorite, then Mary & George will be right up your alley.
90 Day Fiance: Love in Paradise
The next season of 90 Day Fiance: Love in Paradise debuts on April 22 and stars four new couples. This includes the accountant Kyle and the single mother Anika, who both met during a consultation for a possible sperm donation, as well as Luke, who recently found out that he can’t afford to live the luxurious lifestyle of his girlfiend, Madelein. Meanwhile, a hairstylist named Shawn struggles in his relationship with Douglas, who now identifies as the female Alliya. Last but not least, the Texan Alex lives with Adriano in Italy, but their preferences in bed are so different that it may break them apart. Will these couples stay together or split up?
Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta
After moving to MTV, the latest season of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta has seen a lot of conflict and the need for a lot of healing. Erica Banks has been trying to capitalize on her new fame despite a past relationship with Renni, Amy Luciani has returned to the scene, and Jessica White is trying to find a new identity after her breakup with Nick Cannon. The cast recently flew to Canada where they connected with the Stoney Nakoda tribe, but that doesn’t mean that the drama has cooled in the slightest.
Love & Hip Hop: Miami
Don’t forget about the drama in Love & Hip Hop: Miami, either. This season has focused on many transitions for the cast. Trick Daddy is making a concerted effort to becoming healthier, Sukihana is trying to become more sophisticated and classy, and the turbulent relationship between Princess and Ray J remains as heated as it always was. In fact, it was revealed that Princess lost over a million dollars playing poker near the beginning of the year. The last three episodes of the season will be wrapping up soon, with the season finale and reunion coming this month, so this will be a good time to catch up on the series.
Caught in the Act: Unfaithful
Airing on MTV, Caught in the Act: Unfaithful is exactly what it sounds like. Similar to Cheaters, this reality TV series has a firmer, less chaotic structure. The host Tami Roman is an empathetic truthteller who, alongside other relationship experts like Kevin Carr, allows for difficult discussions to occur. With evidence collected by private investigator Brianne Joseph, the victim is able to confront their partner with evidence of infidelity. Better yet, the victim can choose whether to let the other lover know about the cheater or catch both the cheater and the lover in the act.
Jersey Shore Family Vacation
The last season of Jersey Shore Family Vacation saw the comeback of Sammi Giancola, and this season has been hyping up the reunion between her and Ronnie. It will be interesting to see whether the pair is able to reconcile what happened between them in the past. Otherwise, we’ve seen the cast going between Atlantic City and Las Vegas with almost non-stop partying, in addition to a New York Jets game and an excursion to Nashville. But will the fun times end when Ronnie finally arrives?
