Netflix has announced the official cast for Tyler Perry‘s Beauty in Black, the upcoming 16-episode drama series, which will be led by Taylor Polidore Williams (Snowfall) and Crystle Stewart (Tyler Perry’s The Oval).
Joining Williams and Stewart in the drama are Amber Reign Smith (Wu-Tang: An American Saga) as Rain, Ricco Ross (Aliens) as Horace, Debbi Morgan (Power) as Olivia, Richard Lawson (Black Hamptons) as Norman, Steven G. Norfleet (Interview with the Vampire) as Charles, Julian Horton (National Champions) as Roy, Terrell Carter (Empire; From Scratch) as Varley, Shannon Wallace (City on a Hill) as Calvin, Bryan Tanaka (Entourage) as Officer Alex, Joy Rovaris (The Neighborhood) as Gillian, Charles Malik Whitfield (The Temptations) as Jules, Tamera “Tee” Kissen (House Party) as Body, Ursula O. Robinson (Hightown) as Delinda, Ashley Versher (Law & Order) as Lena, George Middlebrook (The Final Play) as Officer Trackson and newcomer Xavier Smalls as Angel.
What is Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black about?
“The series follows two women leading very different lives,” reads the logline. “While Kimmie is struggling to make ends meet after her mother kicked her out, and Mallory finds success running her own business. Eventually, they find themselves entangled in each other’s lives.”
As part of his multiyear first-look deal with Netflix, Beauty in Black will be written, directed and produced by Perry. The film will also be produced by Angi Bones and Tony Strickland. In addition to Beauty in Black, Perry has another upcoming collaboration with Netflix in the form of the Six Triple Eight movie, which centers around first and only Women’s Army Corp unit of color to be stationed overseas during World War II.
