Synopsis:
“Jackass: The Movie” was originally released in 2002. The film is based on the MTV series. It follows a bunch of man-children as they perform dangerous, stupid, crude, reckless, and occasionally illegal stunts in public.
“Jackass: The Movie: Special Edition – Unrated” is not rated (obviously). The original film was rated R for dangerous, sometimes extremely crude stunts, language and nudity.
Mini-Review:
Watching the “Jackass” film is a bit of a mixed bag. Some of the stupid stunts are actually really funny. For example, the guys put a live and very large alligator in their mom’s house. Her reaction is priceless. Another scene shows Knoxville allowing heavyweight boxer Butterbean to pound him to pieces in the middle of a public store. In another scene we see one of the guys attempting to tightrope walk over a pen of hungry alligators
with chicken dangling from his jock strap. This lowbrow comedy even made my wife laugh when she wandered in the room as I watched it.
Unfortunately, some of the other scenes are downright disgusting. One guy actually craps in his pants in a van and causes the cameramen to vomit from the smell. Another scene shows Knoxville attaching muscle stimulators to the scrotum of one of the guys in full view of the camera. Another scene shows them stuffing a toy car up the butt of another one of the guys. None of this is stuff I wanted to see before I died. A lot of it is actually kind of sad to see. You watch these 30-year-old guys acting like the stupid kids you ran around with in junior high, but they’re getting paid a lot to do it.
In any case, I think you already know if “Jackass” is your cup of tea or not. The only difference between this and the TV show is that there is more nudity, language, and disgusting humor.
This unrated edition has all the bonus features of the previous regular version. You have the same commentaries, the “making of” video, the outtakes, and the 27 minutes of additional footage. However, you don’t have the two music videos that came before. What you get instead is the four minutes of additional footage in the movie, a trailer for “Jackass Number Two,” and “Too Hot for MTV” Additional Footage. This additional footage shows things like one of the guys taking a dump, another guy peeing on Knoxville’s feet in the middle of the night, and other stunts involving bodily functions. I’m not sure it’s worth buying again if you already own the earlier DVD.
