HBO Max subscribers are wondering if all eight Harry Potter films have been removed from the streaming platform. Here is everything you need to know.
Did they take Harry Potter off HBO Max?
No, all eight Harry Potter films have not yet been taken off HBO Max, as of writing. However, they are due to be removed very soon due to Peacock recently gaining exclusive streaming rights to them.
Since Peacock has recently acquired exclusive streaming rights to the Harry Potter franchise and will start streaming all eight films from March 1, as of writing, the films will inevitably end up leaving HBO Max again very soon for the foreseeable future.
As per various reports from sources like Decider, this removal is not new as HBO Max and Peacock have been sharing the streaming rights to the magical franchise and have been going back and forth when it comes to putting the films on their platforms since 2020.
This back and forth is reportedly because of a deal inked between the streamers’ parent companies WarnerMedia and NBCUniversal, which saw all eight films switch between both platforms every few months or weeks, as per Vulture.
HBO Max lost all eight Harry Potter films in August 2022 and welcomed them back again in November 2022. They then lost them again in February 2023 and welcomed them back in February 2024. Now it is once again leaving the platform soon as Peacock has acquired exclusive streaming rights for all eight films again.
It is not new for films or television shows to strictly remain in one OTT platform as they can keep changing platforms on account of licensing deals and streaming rights changes.
Will Harry Potter return to HBO Max?
Harry Potter could return to HBO Max a few months or weeks later thanks to the aforementioned deal between Warner Bros. and NBCUniversal.
In entertainment elsewhere, Superman: Legacy has gotten a new title. Also, here is the final Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire trailer.
