Variety has confirmed that Anya Taylor-Joy plays a secret role in Dune: Part Two.
Following months of online rumors claiming that Taylor-Joy may appear in some capacity in Denis Villeneuve’s forthcoming Dune sequel, Variety has confirmed that The Queen’s Gambit star does indeed play a role in the film.
It’s not yet been revealed who Taylor-Joy is playing in the movie; however, Variety says she portrays a “major character from the franchise.”
Along with The Queen’s Gambit, Taylor-Joy is known for starring in 2015’s The Witch, 2016’s Split, 2020’s The New Mutants, 2021’s Last Night in Soho, 2022’s The Northman, and 2022’s The Menu, among other roles. She also voiced Princess Peach in 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie and will soon be seen in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which releases on May 24, 2024.
What is Dune: Part Two about?
“This follow-up film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family,” reads the synopsis. “Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”
Dune: Part Two is once again directed by Villeneuve, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jon Spaihts. Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya both return for the film, along with Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, and Stephen McKinley Henderson.
They’ll be joined by newcomers Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha, Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot, and Souheila Yacoub as Shishakli. Tim Blake Nelson also plays an undisclosed role in the film.
Dune: Part Two releases in United States theaters on March 1, 2024, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
