The Manga industry is growing more and more diverse with each passing day. With more genres, ever-increasing representation, demographics, and cultures, this industry has grown a lot. Several series show plots taking place in actual places in Japan, like Tokyo or Osaka. One such series has been airing recently, Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable!
This is a rather generic rom-com that takes place in Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost prefecture, far away from Tokyo’s bustling metropolis. The manga panels are a fresh breath of air, chilly but fresh. The characters are charming, and the series boasts a light-hearted tone with sprinkles of drama and comedy.
A simple walkthrough of Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable!
Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable! The line to shojo falls under the shonen genre even though it blurs out, considering the art style, premise, and gentle romantic overtones. However, audiences who like Shojo can try this series casually. The anime follows the story of Tsubasa Shiki, an ordinary 16-year-old boy who moved from Tokyo to the remote prefecture of Hokkaido for schooling. However, the story’s main element starts after the protagonist’s eventful meeting with Minami Fuyuki.
The story later dives into a conventional rom-com tracing around real-life gyaru culture and some local Hokkaido flair. The contrast between Tsubasa and Minami is quite prominent as he is shy while she is a loud and extroverted girl. However, gyarus like Minami Fuyuki are perfectly ordinary and likable people under their well-manicured exteriors, and Tsubasa and Minami quickly become close friends.
