Ben Affleck will direct Matt Damon in a new Netflix crime thriller, Animals.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the Good Will Hunting co-stars are reteaming once again for Animals, a new crime thriller that will be directed by Affleck and stars Damon.
Written by Connor McIntyre and Billy Ray, the “crime thriller concerns a mayoral candidate and his wife whose son is kidnapped. Surrounded by plenty of enemies, political and otherwise, the husband and wife have no choice but to get their hands real dirty in order to save their son.”
The movie could begin shooting in Los Angeles in March 2024.
Affleck and Damon are also producing the movie with Dani Bernfeld, Brad Weston, Collin Creighton, and Fifth Season.
What movies have Ben Affleck and Matt Damon been in together?
Affleck and Damon, who met one another during childhood, have collaborated on a number of projects before. Their first professional collaboration together was 1989’s Field of Dreams, before they then to appeared together in 1992’s School Ties, 1997’s Good Will Hunting, 1997’s Chasing Amy, 1999’s Dogma, 2001’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, 2019’s Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, 2021’s The Last Duel, and, most recently, 2023’s Air.
The two of them also own their own independent film company, Artists Equity, which was founded in 2023. Affleck and Damon are both producing Animals via Artists Equity.
Affleck made his feature film directorial debut in 2007 with Gone Baby Gone, which starred his brother, Casey Affleck. He went on to direct 2010’s The Town, 2012’s Argo, and 2016’s Live by Night, all of which he starred in, before then making Air in 2023.
Along with Air, Damon also starred in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer in 2023. He’ll next be seen in Ethan Coen and Tricia Cooke’s Drive-Away Dolls, which releases in the United States on February 23, 2024.
Animals does not yet have a release date from Netflix.
