The White Lotus’ Tom Hollander accidentally received an Avengers payslip meant for Tom Holland.
Speaking on Late Night with Seth Myers, per GamesRadar, Hollander explained how he accidentally wound up getting a box office bonus payslip for one of Holland’s Avengers movies.
“I got an email from the agency saying, ‘Payment advice slip: Your first box office bonus for The Avengers,'” Hollander said, explaining that he and Holland were with the same talent agency at the time. “And I thought, ‘I don’t think I’m in The Avengers.'”
He continued, “It was an astonishing amount of money. And it was not his salary, it was his first box office bonus. Not the whole box office, the first one. And it was more money than I’ve ever [seen] – it was a seven-figure sum. He was 20, or something. So, my feeling of smugness that you remember I had in the first half disappeared very quickly. But that’s showbiz, it’s up, it’s down, it’s hero, it’s zero.”
While Hollander has yet to appear in a Marvel Cinematic Universe project, he did play Lord Cutler Beckett in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. He’s additionally starred in 2005’s Pride & Prejudice, 2008’s Valkyrie, 2015’s Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation, 2018’s Bird Box, 2021’s The King’s Man, and more.

Holland, meanwhile, made his Marvel debut as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. He reprised the role in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, and 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, along with a brief, uncredited cameo in 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
Regarding whether or not he’ll continue to play Spider-Man, Holland told Collider in November 2023, “All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character. Whether or not we can find a way to do justice to the character is another thing. I feel very protective over Spider-Man. I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy. So, I won’t make another one for the sake of making another one. It will have to be worth the while of the character.”
