Dungeons & Dragons will soon receive its first official VR game, courtesy of Demeo developer Resolution Games. The studio has not announced the title or release date or shared screenshots or videos. However, the team says it will share more information in the future.
Demeo developer making Dungeons & Dragons VR game
Resolution’s founder and CEO, Tommy Palm, announced the new D&D game in a recent statement, as IGN reported.
“As anyone who’s played Demeo can guess, we’re incredibly huge fans of tabletop roleplaying games,” said Palm. “They have an unparalleled power to bring people together to create shared experiences, and that’s something we’ve tried to capture, too, with nearly every release in our library.”
He said the studio was “beyond humbled” to have the opportunity to work on an official Dungeons & Dragons game.
Eugene Evans, Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro’s SVP of digital strategy and licensing, also commented on the partnership. “Resolution Games has a clear understanding of how to bring players together and capture the fun of tabletop gaming on digital platforms in an accessible way,” Evans said. “They are an ideal partner to bring a new Dungeons & Dragons video game to life in VR and beyond.”
Resolution’s main claim to fame is Demeo, a virtual tabletop dungeon crawler inspired by Dungeons & Dragons and Magic the Gathering. It was released initially for the Oculus Quest in 2021, though non-VR users can also play it on PS5 and Steam. Resolution followed it up with Demeo Battles, and both games received a positive reception. Given this recent history with D&D-style games, it’s unsurprising that Wizards of the Coast was interested in an official partnership.
