RRR Writer Vijayendra Prasad Calls Jr NTR’s Role a Supporting One

SS Rajamouli’s RRR became one of the biggest blockbusters of 2022. The film broke several records at the box office and also became the first movie by an Indian production to win an Academy Award. The film saw Ram Charan and Jr NTR in the lead roles as they played fearless freedom fighters. While their work was praised globally, the film’s writer, Vijayendra Prasad, recently mentioned that Jr NTR’s character was more of a supporting one.

RRR’s track Naatu Naatu won an Oscar for Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards. The track became the first song from an Indian film and an Asian film to win in the above-mentioned category. Apart from Ram Charan and Jr NTR, the film starred Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran, and others in supporting roles.

RRR writer says Jr NTR played a supporting role opposite Ram Charan

SS Rajamouli’s father, Vijayendra Prasad, recently interacted with Mahaa Max. During the interview, the writer mentioned that Jr NTR had a less important role. He said, “When I wrote the story, I thought people would see Alluri Sitaramaraju in Charan, not Ram. But people up north claimed it felt more like Ram. Now NTR’s Bheem did not have a get-up like that, so people seem to have lessened his importance to the story overall.”

However, the writer mentioned that Jr NTR’s character, Bheem, was more difficult to play. He said, “I thought they’re both important to the story when I wrote the film. But after I watched it, I felt like people will remember Charan’s character more. That said, it’s difficult to play NTR’s role, he did it well. Charan’s character has so many shades to it, NTR has to be efficient in playing the supporting role throughout.”

However, fans do not agree with him and are arguing that Jr NTR had a lead role in the film.
