Netflix announced more cast additions for its upcoming drama series Ransom Canyon on Friday, with James Brolin, Eoin Macken, and Lizzy Greene set to join the series. The three actors are set to join previously announced cast members Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly in the April Blair-created series.
According to the streamer, Brolin will play Cap Fuller, an ex-army captain and “bullheaded owner of Fully Ranch. After losing his only son in Afghanistan, Cap buried his grief in work and the occasional drink, his once renowned ranch having fallen into slight disrepair. Resisting pressure to sell, Cap hires new foreman, Yancy Grey, and is quick to let the young man know exactly what he’s doing wrong.”
Macken will play the role of Davis Collins, a “charming, ivy-educated owner of the modern Bar W Ranch. Unlike his counterpart Staten Kirkland, Davis is intent on capitalizing on the invaluable aquifer running below Ransom’s ranch land.”
Finally, Greene will play Lauren Brigman, the daughter of the town Sheriff and “girlfriend of cocky quarterback, Reid Collins, Lauren appears to be living her best life . . . but all she really wants is to put this small town in her rearview. With her sights set on making the cheer team at UT Austin as her ticket out, Lauren must navigate her strict father’s desire for her to stay in Ransom.”
What is Ransom Canyon about?
Ransom Canyon is created, written, and executive produced by April Blair. Previously, Blair has worked on Wednesday and The CW drama All American. Amanda Marsalis (Ozark, Umbrella Academy) is set to direct the first two episodes.
“It’s a multi-generational family show set on a ranch, and we say it’s Virgin River meets Yellowstone,” Jinny Howe, Netflix’s Head of Drama Development, said of Ransom Canyon in an August 2022 interview with Deadline. This points to the streamer’s strategy, as romantic dramas like Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias have been a big success on the platform.
