Malayalam superstar Mammootty is all set to entertain the audience once again with his upcoming film, Turbo. The actor was last seen in Kaathal – The Core and received critical acclaim. He is returning to the action drama genre with the upcoming film and his fans are excited. However, there are several speculations about the movie being a reboot of his 1990 film, Kottayam Kunjachan. The screenwriter of the movie recently addressed the speculations and dismissed them.
Mammootty will allegedly play the role of Turbo Jose, a powerful man on a mission, in the movie. Touted to be a mass action drama, the film is written by Midhun Manuel Thomas. Vysakh is directing the film, while Mamootty’s Mammootty Kampany is bankrolling it. The movie marks the actor-director’s first movie together after five years. Sunil, Raj B. Shetty, Antony Varghese, and other actors are playing supporting characters.
Is Mammootty’s Turbo a reboot of Kottayam Kunjachan?
As per OTTplay, Midhun Manuel Thomas recently addressed the claims about Turbo being a Kottayam Kunjachan reboot. The writer, in an interview, revealed that there is no connection between the two movies. He added that Turbo is neither a sequel nor a reboot of Mammootty’s 1990 film. The subjects of the two movies are completely different. Manuel also teased that Turbo is a full-fledged action film with a pinch of humor.
Mammootty and his team are currently shooting the final schedule of the project in Idukki, Kerala. The screenwriter has also allegedly revealed that the release date window for Turbo is May 2024. The film is in the production process at the moment and it seems that they are working rigorously. Mammootty’s production house also shared pictures from his New Year celebration with Turbo’s team.
At 72, Mammootty is among the most active stars in Malayalam cinema. The actor has been filming back-to-back and delivering blockbuster movies.
