Blumhouse producer Ryan Turek has spoken about the upcoming movie adaptation of the multiplayer horror game Dead by Daylight.
Blumhouse is on the Hook for Dead by Daylight Movie
Speaking in an interview with Collider, Turek, who has overseen horror sits such as Five Nights at Freddy’s and Halloween, discussed various future projects at Blumhouse, and when he was asked about what he was most excited about at Blumhouse that he is getting ready to film in 2024 that maybe is not on people’s radars Turek was quick to mention the next potentially huge horror game adaptation.
”I will say that one of the projects that I’m active on is Dead by Daylight, which is the video game adaptation of a game that’s been around for, like, seven years. I look at that as the celebration of horror that the video game itself is. ”
The success of Five Nights at Freddy’s has clearly set the template for an adaptation of Behaviour Interactive‘s multiplayer smash.
”What we’ve learned from Five Nights at Freddy’s is, obviously, steer towards the fans and make a video game adaptation for the fans,” Turek said before noting how he’s a big fan of the game himself. ”I’m a huge Dead by Daylight fan. I played, even though I steer to newer games like Alan Wake 2, and I’m like, ‘Let me play some Alan Wake 2 tonight… Eh, I’m gonna get into Dead by Daylight and play the killer tonight.’ That one I’m super excited about, and we’re creatively mulling around what the way into it is.
Dead by Daylight the game sees a team of four survivors attempt to escape from a player-controlled killer. The game has amassed an impressive pool of horror IPs over the years with killers such as Chucky, Alien’s Xenomorph, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, and Resident Evil’s Albert Wesker. Other collaborations include Strangers Things and a very meta survivor appearance by Nicholas Cage.
The Dead by Daylight movie release date is currently unconfirmed.
