WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg has expressed his eagerness to be a part of AEW star Sting’s final match as he bids farewell in 2024. Sting made waves when he unexpectedly joined AEW after his WWE contract expired in 2020. WWE Hall of Famer signed with All Elite Wrestling, and has had several high-profile matches since. He has helped create numerous memorable moments in AEW.
With a career spanning over four decades wrestling in various promotions, such as WCW, TNA, WWE, and now AEW, Sting has become a revered figure among wrestling icons. Undoubtedly, leaving an indelible mark on the professional wrestling industry.
Speaking about Steve & Captain Evil, Sting’s WCW rival, Goldberg expressed a desire to be a part of his retirement match. Furthermore, he conveyed his profound respect for the Stinger.
He said, “Sting is the reason why I broke into the business. Sting set a great example. He’s about to retire. I tried to be part of his retirement match. I would not have chosen to get into the world of professional wrestling if it wasn’t for Sting. He was a normal dude who went out and did abnormal things. Wrestling is like being in the circus, it truly is.”
Goldberg further added, “I never looked at it with much respect, but after I watched him from afar, I realized that I had the ability to go do it. He was not only a performer. He had self-respect and he commanded respect. He’s one of the best human beings on the planet, and he set an example for me and I just tried to grab it and run with it and make him proud. I had the best time of my life in the ring with Sting.”
Sting gears up for his retirement match, scheduled to take place on March 3, 2024, at the AEW Revolution in the Greensboro Coliseum.
What’s Goldberg’s next move? Possible role in AEW star Sting’s retirement
Goldberg has recently shown interest in participating in AEW star Sting’s retirement match. The key question is whether Goldberg, who worked with WWE from 2016 to 2022, could potentially join All Elite Wrestling.
The answer is ‘yes’ in the fact that WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg became a free agent in December 2022. Reports from a few months back indicated that AEW President Tony Khan was in discussions with Goldberg.
With ongoing talks and Goldberg expressing his wish to partake in Sting’s retirement match, it remains to be seen if Tony Khan opts to arrange a match between WCW rivals Goldberg and Sting at the AEW Revolution in March next year.
