Following the confirmation that Bridgerton Season 3 will center around Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington’s romance, lots of fans of the original book series got confused since the Netflix drama decided to deviate from Julia Quinn’s official book timeline.
In the book series, the third installment titled An Offer from a Gentlemen, originally revolved around the love story of the second oldest Bridgerton sibling, Benedict. However, in Bridgerton Season 3, the creative team has decided to skipped the third book in favor of the fourth installment titled Romancing Mister Bridgerton.
During a recent interview with EW, showrunner Jess Brownell finally explained the reason behind the book change, revealing that they shifted the focus to Colin and Penelope’s story due to how long they have been building it up.
“We’ve spent two seasons really getting to know Pen and Colin. We’ve been watching Pen’s crush and seeing how oblivious Colin is to it,” she said. “That’s a dynamic that you can only play out for so long before something has to change. This really felt like the right time to lean into what’s been set up with them. On the Benedict side, he’s such a fun character and such a fan favorite that we are really excited to play with him for a little bit more and let him have more fun before he settles down.
Who’s the cast of Bridgerton Season 3?
Bridgerton stars Golda Rosheuvel, Jonathan Bailey, Luke Newton, Claudia Jessie, Nicola Coughlan, Ruby Barker, Sabrina Bartlett, Ruth Gemmell, Adjoa Andoh, Polly Walker, Bessie Carter, Simone Ashley and Harriet Cains, with Julie Andrews as the voice of Lady Whistledown. Season 3 will also feature new cast members Daniel Francis (Stay Close) as Marcus Anderson, Sam Phillips (The Crown) as Lord Debling, and James Phoon (Wreck) as Harry Dankworth.
“Season 3 finds Penelope Featherington as she’s finally given up her crush on Colin Bridgerton after hearing him disparage her to his friends last season,” reads the synopsis. “Instead, she’s focusing on finding a husband who will respect her independence so she may continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, away from her mother and sisters. Due to her lack of confidence, however, her search doesn’t go so well.”
