The upcoming Korean horror series The Bequeathed finally got a release date on Netflix. Over a year after its announcement, Train to Busan’s director, Yeon Sang-Do, will bring the zombie horror K-drama to the platform on Friday, January 19, 2024. The drama follows the story of a woman and her complicated family history over burial grounds. A new trailer also accompanied the announcement, raising much anticipation amongst the viewers.
The Bequeathed is created and written by Yeon Sang-Do. The creator has previously worked on popular Korean movies and series, including Train to Busan, Hellbound, and Peninsula. The drama is based on a popular webtoon of the same name, which came out on November 27, 2023, and gained significant popularity. Hong Min-Nam, who worked with Yeon Dang-Do as assistant director in Train to Busan, makes his debut as director.

The Bequeathed follows the story of a young woman named Yoon Seo-Ha (Kim Hyun-Joo), who receives the news of her uncle’s death. She also learns that her uncle, her only remaining family relative, has left her the family burial ground to her. As she mourns his death, her half-brother, Kim Young-Ho (Ryu Kyung-Soo), approaches her, asking for his share of the estate. What follows is a series of intricate murders and ominous events.
The cast further includes Park Hee-Soon, who plays the police detective Choi Seong-Joon. He comes to investigate the connections between the family’s burial ground and the eerie events happening in the town. Park Byung-Eun plays the squad chief and Seong-Joon’s junior colleague Sang-Min. As the duo investigate the murders, there are many uncovered secrets and dark truths awaiting them.
In the trailer released with the announcement, Young-Ho follows Seo-Ha to ask for his share of the burial ground. As the detectives continue to investigate the connections, mysterious creatures, eerie rituals, and murders foreshadow the impending horror. The trailer promises bloodshed, suspense, and a lot of horrifying moments. Viewers will have to wait and see what’s in store for them.
