Scream Factory’s The Ring 4K Collection release date has been pushed back to early 2024.
Ring in the New Year
The collection was originally supposed to be released next month, but the delay will allow the restoration team ”to create the best possible brand-new 4K transfer of The Ring (2002), as supervised by Director Gore Verbinski.”
The Ring 4K Collection will now be released on March 19, 2024.
The Ring remade the iconic 1998 Japanese horror movie Ringu by Hideo Nakata and proved to be one of the most successful Western adaptations of Asian horror. The Gore Verbinski movie sees newspaper reporter, Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts) investigating the story of four teenagers who all met with mysterious deaths exactly one week after watching a mysterious videotape. Allowing her investigative curiosity to get the better of her, Rachel tracks down the video… and watches it. Now, she has just seven days to unravel the mystery of the Ring.
The Ring Two, directed by Nakata, Sees the vengeful spirit Samara from the first film return to try and take the soul of Rachel’s son.
The third film, 2017’s Rings by F. Javier Gutiérrez, is inarguably the weakest of the three movies. It sees a woman becoming worried about her boyfriend when he explores the dark urban legend of a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after viewing. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before.
