What do we know about Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu?
Speaking with Empire Magazine about the movie, Eggers, said, “Yeah, it’s a scary film. It’s a horror movie. It’s a Gothic horror movie. And I do think that there hasn’t been an old-school Gothic movie that’s actually scary in a while. And I think that the majority of audiences will find this one to be the case.”
Written and directed by Eggers — who is known for 2015’s The Witch, 2019’s The Lighthouse, and 2022’s The Northman — Nosferatu is a remake of the 1922 silent film of the same name. Portraying the titular vampire in the movie will be It and Barbarian’s Bill Skarsgård.
“I’ll say that Bill has so transformed, I’m fearful that he might not get the credit that he deserves because he’s just… he’s not there,” Eggers said of Skasgård’s performance. “He felt like honoring who had come before him. It’s all very subtle. But I think the main thing is that he’s even more [of] a folk vampire. In my opinion, he looks like a dead Transylvanian nobleman, and in a way that we’ve never actually seen what an actual dead Transylvanian nobleman would look like and be dressed like.”
Along with Depp and Skarsgård, Nosferatu stars Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Willem Dafoe, Simon McBurney, and Ralph Ineson.
Having completed principal photography prior to the start of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike, Nosferatu will release in United States theaters in 2024.
